What has been your biggest influence on the Little Tuna brand?
I like to live a healthy lifestyle, I’m conscious about what I eat and maintaining a balanced diet. It has always been very important to me that all the added ingredients were high quality, clean, no added nasties and as locally sourced as possible. We have kept our recipes simple to make the fresh flavour and quality of the tuna stand out.
What do you love about the Australian seafood industry?
I'm lucky and humbled to be involved and have experience in the Australian Seafood Industry; which came when I married into the Lamason family - a big fishing family in Cairns. As a country we are so lucky to have amazing clean oceans where an abundance of quality fish supply is available. I have met so many likeminded people who love what they do and the fishing industry.
Where has been your favourite place to travel?
Rowan, my husband, and I travelled to South America in 2012. My favourite place by far was Peru. We completed the Inca Trail where the history and scenery were remarkable. We were also lucky to have a lot of ‘off the tourist track’ experiences, the people are so kind and generous, and their traditional culture was such a great experience.
What’s your favourite fish and why?
I am a big fan of fresh sashimi tuna and we are lucky enough to get the freshest in Cairns. My favourite fish to catch and cook is Red Emperor. The flavour is sweet and a real challenge to wind in from the deep water off Cairns, so the catch is always very rewarding.
What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with my family exploring Cairns. I love to dive on the reef and do some fishing as well as cooking and gardening.
What do you love about Cairns?
I moved to Cairns from the Adelaide Hills when I was 18. Initially I didn’t realise how far north I was moving but it didn’t take long to fall in love with Cairns and the Cairns laidback lifestyle. The reef is right at our doorstep and so is the beauty of the rainforest. We are very lucky to live in a place like Cairns.
