The Australian Tuna Journey
Have you ever wondered about the journey Australian tuna takes before it reaches your plate?
Leaving Cairns
It all begins in Cairns, QLD, where Australian fishermen embark on a several-day journey. Leaving their families behind, they set out to find the great catch that will eventually make its way to your dinner table.
Sustainability at Sea
These fishing boats are not only focused on the catch but also on sustainability. By using circle hooks and being monitored by the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) with onboard monitoring, they ensure that their practices are environmentally friendly.
The AFMA has implemented strict guidelines, including a quota system that limits the total allowable commercial catch. This measure helps to safeguard the future of our oceans and ensures that Australian tuna stocks remain healthy for generations to come.
MSC-Certified Fishing Vessles
Our fishing boats are proud to be MSC-Certified, a recognition of their commitment to catching tuna in a sustainable manner. This certification assures consumers that the tuna they are enjoying has been sourced responsibly and with the health of the oceans in mind.
Arrival in Cairns
After a successful fishing trip, the boat returns to Cairns where the tuna is offloaded. To maintain freshness, the tuna is immediately placed into an ice slurry, preserving its quality until it reaches processing facilities, just 2 minutes away.
Processing & Cooking
When the Australian albacore tuna arrives in our Cairns facility it's ready to be processed, pressure cooked and packaged and sent off to our loyal little tuna customers.
